Random thoughts of a humbled mother.....

Several years ago I would have never imagined that I would be
A mother of four
A homeschool mom
"That mom" in a restaurant with a screaming toddler

I never would have imagined that I would
Bottle feed my baby
Let my children watch way too much TV
Scream at my kids....apologize....then do it again several minutes later

I could have never pictures myself
Letting my toddler eat off the floor
Going to the store without any makeup
Bribing my children with sticks of gum

I would have never have imagined
So much chaos
So many tears
So much joy

Life has changed me
Children have changed me
God has changed me and I am forever humbled..

A (Fairly Lame) Ode to Mothers

By Jen Hatmaker

An ode to the marvelous woman called "Mother"
Though not one of us is exactly like another.
From the second we're born to the minute we die
Our preferences are as limitless as stars in the sky.

We might have been perfectly gracious before
But childbirth entered us in the Mommy War.
Rather than letting everyone else be
We criticize parenting that isn't exactly like....me.

So once and for all let me put this to rest
None of us owns the title of "best."
Natural childbirth doesn't make you hippy
Epidurals are not just for women who want to feel trippy.
In a bathtub with a doula or in a hospital bed
We all got a baby with limbs and a head.

Nursing is great if nothing goes wrong
But some nipples turn inward and refuse to play along.
This is a choice for each mom - it's her route
So it's just A+B and everyone else can C their way out.

Schedules and timers do not make you cruel
Feeding on demand does not make you a fool.
In the nursery with a monitor or in the family bed
Every chick gets to pick where her baby lays his head.

If I see one more mom roll her eyes at "organic...."
"Partially Hydrogenated" throws some of us into a panic.
But neither judge Sonic burger and fries
Some of us just want to enjoy food before we die.

Preschool, homeschool, public, or Montessori
Listen my friends, and I'll tell you a story:
Two moms differed on favorite school trends
Their kids turned out pretty much the same.  The End.

If a girl gets the title of "mom" accidentally
the worst thing we can do is treat her judgmentally.
How about some love, some help, some advice?
She needs our love and we shouldn't think twice.

Discipline through various methods will prevail
Look, we're just all trying to keep our kids out of jail.
These things are just preferences, not right or wrong
What matters more is teaching our kids to get along-
To love and to share, to speak gently and kind,
To obey so that mom won't go out of her mind.

Showing them Jesus is our common ground
Teaching them how he can always be found.
He's present in public school and Waldorf (so trendy)
He's over at Whole Foods but also at Wendy's
Jesus never cared about these sorts of things
It's our hearts that he wants and the worship we bring.

It's time for us moms to call a truce
Regardless if we buy Capri Sun or 100 percent juice.
My way is not your way, and your way isn't mine
But both of our kids will turn out just find.

Rather than judging and looking down our noses
Let's enjoy the common ground motherhood poses.
As believers, we all love the same good Lord
We all have children who tell us "I'm bored."

We all need more sleep than these tiny five hours
Most of us struggle to find time for a shower.
We haven't been to the bathroom alone in an age
Our mothers have all told us, "Relax, this is just a stage."

We all love our babies so much we could die
We'd take a bullet for each one without batting an eye.
Though we are different, we're in the same tribe
Motherhood requires a similar vibe-
Love and affection, sacrifice and grace
Laughter, which keeps the whole mechanism in place.

Though different, by the grace of God, I suspect:
ALL our children will rise up and call us.....collect.

"She looks well to how things go in her household....Her children rise up and call her blessed."
Proverbs 31:27-28

The Birthday Girl!

My beautiful baby girl turned seven today! I had visions of surprising her with a fabulous breakfast, a trip to the salon for a manicure, and dinner out at her favorite restaurant. What actually happened today was a totally different story. She did have a fabulous breakfast (even if it wasn't home made), but most our day was spent watching t.v. and trying to recover from the awful tummy bug that invaded our home last week. It has been rough.....there have been many tears shed......but it is what it is and we are rolling with it. One of my favorite things about the kid's birthdays is the tradition (that I stole from a friend) of the birthday interview. I love looking back and seeing how things change over the years. So here is what is going on in Elle's life at the ripe old age of seven......
1) What is your favorite color? Pink
2) What is your favorite food? Fish sandwiches
3) What is your favorite movie? Peter Rabbit
4) What is your favorite T.V. show? Curious George
5) What is your favorite book? Dr. Doolittle
6) What is your favorite subject in school? Science
7) What is your least favorite subject in school? Math
8) What is your favorite thing about Daddy? He plays with me
9) What is your favorite thing about Mommy? Cuddling
10) What is your favorite thing about Ava? She plays with me
11) What is your favorite thing about Beckett? He is so funny
12) What is your favorite thing about London? She is just soooo cute!
13) Who is your best friend? Eliza Slack
14) Where is your favorite place to go? Tutarus
15) What is your favorite restaurant? Chic-fil-a (of course) and Applebees (odd since we haven't been in years)
16) What do you want to be when you grow up? A Vet
17) What is your favorite thing that God made? Pies.....well actually family (good to know..)
18) What are you most thankful for? Today is my birthday!!!
We love you baby girl!!! You are such a gift to us!!

Brotherly Love

Beckett has really started to love "his baby". When she is laying on the floor he loves to join her. Even the slightest coo makes him giggle. I hope his love for her will always be this way!

Miss London Lilly-Anne

I always say time flies when you are sleep deprived, and this month is no exception! Today London turned one month, and let's just say I am thankful for God's grace, helping hands and lots of caffeine!! We paid our favorite pediatrician a visit today, and Lil is weighing in at 8 lbs 12 oz, and measuring 22 inches! Just a tiny lil bundle of cuteness. She seems to be such a happy girl which is a huge blessing amid the chaos! We got our first smiles at 3 weeks and she loves to stare and play with her family. Sleep is highly missed and some days I can't tell which direction is up or down....but I am so thankful to have this new addition to our crazy family! London will certainly grow up with tons of love and affection...even if it comes in a really messy home.

Victoria Secret Model walks away to honor the Lord and her husband

I wanted to share an article about one women's tough decision to pursue modesty. The original article had some revealing pictures so I wanted to re-post it without the pictures. Enjoy!

One Victoria’s Secret angel might be turning her back on lingerie modeling but she’s not giving up her wings.

Model Kylie Bisutti, 21, has decided to leave Victoria’s Secret because it clashes with her Christian beliefs.

“My body should only be for my husband and it’s just a sacred thing,” Bisutti told FOX411′s Pop Tarts column. “I didn’t really want to be that kind of role model for younger girls because I had a lot of younger Christian girls that were looking up to me and then thinking that it was OK for them to walk around and show their bodies in lingerie to guys.”

Bisutti beat out 10,000 hopefuls in 2009 to win the Victoria’s Secret Model Search. She was 19 and recently married at the time.

“Victoria’s Secret was my absolutely biggest goal in life, and it was all I ever wanted career-wise. I actually loved it while I was there, it was so much fun and I had a blast. But the more I was modeling lingerie – and lingerie isn’t clothing – I just started becoming more uncomfortable with it because of my faith,” Bisutti told FOX411. “I’m Christian, and reading the Bible more, I was becoming more convicted about it.”

But wearing the coveted angel wings and walking the runway with Adriana Lima and Miranda Kerr wasn’t quite what Bisutti had hoped for.

“It was pretty crazy because I finally achieved my biggest dream, the dream that I always wanted, but when I finally got it, it wasn’t all that I thought it would be,” she said.

Bisutti had decided to leave the lingerie company awhile ago. On Dec. 1, the day after the nationally televised Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in which Bisutti didn’t appear, the model posted to her Twitter page, “For all of you that were looking for me in the Victorias Secret runway show this year, I wasn’t in it. I have decided not to model lingerie Because I personally feel that I am not honoring God or my husband by doing it. My marriage is very important & with divorce rates rising I want to do everything I can to protect my marriage and be respectful to my husband. God graciously gave me this marriage and this life and my desire is to live a Godly faithful life, I don’t however judge others for what they do. Everyone is convicted on different levels.”

Bisutti hasn’t completely given up on modeling just yet. The beauty also posted to her Twitter page, “I am still modeling but only with brands that respect my decision not to wear lingerie. I am also doing TV work now :).”

She appears with Jennifer Lopez in a new Kohl’s commercial, and she’s working on a new television show to hit the CW in September. “My goal is just to be a better role model for the youth. I just want them to see me as somebody that they can look up to and somebody that’s going to be dressing appropriately and I’m not going to get into things that I wouldn’t want them to be getting into,” Bisutti told FOX411.

“I want to go over the top because I don’t think enough people go over the top about how serious all this is. I just want people to see something different about me because I have that faith and I think it’s so important for everyone to have.”

Out of the mouths of babes

I was in my kitchen this afternoon working on the computer and I could hear the girls arguing in the other room. So I called my youngest daughter in to investigate....

Me "Ava, what is going on?"
Ava "I not know"
Me "Well, what are you arguing with Elle about?"
Ava "I can't know mommy"
Me "All right well try to be kind and use your big girl words instead of yelling and fussing please..."

Ava then quickly ran back into the room with Ellie and I heard her yell "phew that was close!!!!" followed by lots and lots of giggles......silly girls.
